If you’re running an Ecommerce website, then you are already aware that your customers are the most important part of your business. There are lots of ways you could, inadvertently, be turning your customers off your site.

1) Frustrating Checkout

Your checkout needs to be quick and easy to use. Your customers have already chosen to spend their money with you. Don’t fall at the last hurdle by presenting them with a mammoth form at the checkout.

Don’t make your customer search for the action button they need. If they wish to ‘Add to cart’ For example it needs to be displayed clearly beside the item or at least visibly on the page. If your customers aren’t encouraged, they’ll lose interest.

3) Impossible To Find Products

Fix your search bar to the top of each visible page, make it easy for a customer to find what they what. Can your search enable autocomplete or offer ‘similar’ suggestions?

4) Obscure Navigation

Don’t be vague with your navigation. As an ecommerce site it’s likely that if your customers are shopping, they’re looking for something in particular. Group your products into categories and subcategories to allow your customers to pin point what they want.

5) Forgotten Customer Queries

If your customer feels their query has been forgotten or is not a priority they will go elsewhere. Keep your contact details up to date and respond in a reasonable amount of time to each enquiry.

6) Ignoring Abandoned Carts

Don’t take this abandonment as a negative, is there some reason customers are leaving their baskets at the checkout? Perhaps the delivery charges are higher than expected. Alternatively, you could use the items they’ve shown interest in to target ad’s.

Customers are offered more choice than ever online. By operating an ecommerce website, you are not only competing with the high street down the road but on a worldwide scale.
